Santa Claus finds gay love in new Holiday advert for Norway’s Posten

Santa Claus Claus enjoys some well-deserved time off in a new TV commercial for Norway’s postal service, Posten.

The four-minute clip, titled ‘When Harry Met Santa Claus’, shows the merry guy falling in love with a man who can’t wait to see him every year. Santa Claus watches Harry sleep, has a drink with him and jokes with this man he only sees once a year. Harry, meanwhile, is heartbroken at having to wait so long between visits.

At the end, Santa says to Harry, “Well, I’ve organized some help this year, so I can be with you”, and then the two kiss.

The spot marks the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in the country, as viewers say via text message during the closing seconds of the ad, which was viewed more than 27,000 times on its first day of posting.

“Posten is an inclusive workplace with great diversity, and we would like to celebrate the 50th anniversary with this beautiful love story,” said Monica Solberg, Marketing Director of Posten. Despite a small number of critical comments on YouTube, the ad was a hit with commentators, who called it “the most beautiful ad” that was “quite sweet and wonderful” and with “so many layers of affection and emotion”.
