A touching and tender new ad from Doritos celebrating both LGBT + love and Day of the Dead, or Día de Los Muertos, has gone viral for all the right reasons.
The advertising comic shows a family paying homage to their late uncle Alberto, who appears as a ghost alongside another man. When family members ask who he is, Uncle Alberto replies, “It’s Mario, my partner,” while holding hands and smiling.
An older woman claps and says, “What a miracle! I thought you would be alone forever.
The ad then cuts the headline, in Spanish, which translates to: “It’s never too late to be who you are.”
The video has over 2.5 million views on YouTube.
Many praised the publicity for including the cultural tradition of the Day of the Dead and linking it to a queer identity, with someone writing on Twitter: “How the fuck does this Doritos ad make me cry.”
Another person tweeted: “Wait, that hit me out of nowhere, why is a Doritos commercial making me sob.”

By simply searching for “Doritos Ad” on Twitter, you can find a number of positive reactions to the clip. While there are many who direct their homophobia towards advertising and defame their so-called “gay agenda,” people who enjoy advertising far outweigh negative messages.

The Day of the Dead is a Mexican and Latin American holiday that takes place in early November and celebrates deceased loved ones.
